- the small liberal arts colleges like amherst, williams and such were very selective. - back then there was more of a distinct formula for GPA + SAT as a low bar. both GPA and SAT scores seem to be wildly inflated now. (i did not have a 4.0 but grading was tougher esp for AP.) there was no weighted GPA that i knew of.
