Arn is more interesting than that: it is a surprisingly complex film about honour and medieval notions of chivalry and values. We REALLY enjoyed this - the characters are fleshed out and the plot develops at a drama pace, rather than at a dramatic pace.

Arn: The Knight Templar instead tells a conflicted romantic tale about their unwanted separation, decreed over a controversy among his people; Cecilia, with child and out of wedlock, is sent to live a life of holy servitude in a nunnery, under harsh scolding and whip-lashing disguised as a pathway to God's righteousness.

Arn, the son of a high-ranking Swedish nobleman is educated in a monastery and sent to the Holy Land as a knight templar to do penance for a forbidden love. He is pulled into a struggle between powerful families, all fighting for the crown of the young nation that is to become the Kingdom of Sweden.

Behind the Scenes #2 (21 minutes) This featurette has a focus on "The Kingdom At Road's End" which is the sequel to "Arn: The Knight Templar". It includes film clips, behind the scenes footage and interviews with actors Sofia Helin, Stellan Skarsgård, Joakim Nätterqvist, Milind Soman, Nicholas Boulton, Anders Baasmo Christiansen ...

Entertainment One have impressed me with this one. Arn: The Knight Templar arrives from the company in a 1.78:1 1080p AVC treatment, but it's not evenly-distributed among the discs: a little over three hours in content appears on the first disc, while the remainder of the production -- and roughly forty-five (45) minutes of special features -- appear on the second disc.

The first movie, the one I'm reviewing here below, is based on the first two books in the trilogy. The second film comes this fall. And, with all this in mind, I bring you my spoiler heavy review of ARN: THE KNIGHT TEMPLAR - QUALITY MOVIE It starts out with a quick scene of Arn out in the desert surrounding Jerusalem, saving a couple of Muslims.
