239 reviews of Arroyo Burro Beach "This is my favorite beach for a walk and for interesting photography. It was my dog's favorite beach when we lived in SB. The tide pools at low tide are fun to explore, and even if you don't have a dog, it's fun to watch the dogs play together.

Arroyo Burro Beach, also known as Hendry's Beach, is the local "off leash" beach for dog lovers. Steep bluffs (that can/will drop rocks!) tower over a mostly flat beach characterized by jutting rocks, tidepools and a band of pebbles at the waterline.

The beach is breezy with gentle waves. It is a mostly sandy beach that is eady to walk along the wave line. I enjoyed watching the dogs playing with the water. One side of the restaurant is leash-free; the other side requires leash. Above the beach is the Douglas Family Preserve with hiking trails.

Arroyo Burro Beach Park is a popular destination for our four-legged friends, whether it be to splash among the lapping waves, take a scenic walk on the bluffs of the Douglas Family Preserve or get a warm bath in one of our self-serve dog wash stations. Dogs must be leashed at all times while at Arroyo Beach Park and all County Parks; however, just adjacent to the park is the Douglas Family Preserve where dogs may roam off-leash. Dogs may also be off-leash on the beach just east of the creek.
