Athol Estes was the step-daughter of Peter Roach, owner of a grocery, bakery and restaurant located on East 6th Street. Her mother was Martha Estes Roach. The Roaches lived on East 4th Street.
Apr 27, 2022 · Athol Estes Porter died July 25, 1897. Porter was found guilty of embezzlement, sentenced to five years jail, and imprisoned April 25, 1898 at the Ohio State Penitentiary. He was released on July 24, 1901 for good behaviour after serving three years.
Unfortunately, Athol became too ill to meet Porter in Honduras as he had planned. When he learned that his wife was dying, Porter returned to Austin in February 1897 and surrendered to the court, pending trial. Athol Estes Porter died from tuberculosis (then known as consumption) on July 25, 1897.

Feb 5, 2022 · Around 1885, Porter met Athol Estes, the step-daughter of a grocery store owner. They eloped in 1887 and were married in the home of Reverend R. K. Smoot, the pastor of First Presbyterian Church. That same year, Porter began working as a draftsman at the Texas General Land Office, drawing maps from surveys and field notes.
