Area Status: Open. Audie Murphy, a decorated soilder, died on May 28, 1971 in a plane crash on the slopes of Brush Mountain. The Veterans of Foreign Wars have erected a monument in Murphy's memory, on the crash site. The short section of Appalachian Trail goes over several peaks and saddles.
