August Sicard studied in Vienna and in 1835 he became an assistant at the Polytechnikum in that city. Together with his fellow student Eduard von der Nüll he travelled from 1839 to 1843 to study. This resulted in a professional as well as private partnership afterwards. In 1843 he became a professor at the Academy in Vienna.
