From a distance, "Ava" looks like it wants to be another female-driven action/spy thriller in the vein of " Atomic Blonde ."

Ava Faulkner (Jessica Chastain) is a recovering addict and former soldier turned assassin. In France, she kidnaps her new target, an English businessman Peter Hamilton (Ioan Gruffudd), a financial advisor to the International Monetary Fund.
