About. Bama Brown moved to Odessa, Texas from Alabama when he was seventeen. That's where the "Bama" nickname came from. Bama was trained in oil and gas and roughnecked on rigs and did almost every kind of oil-related job. He was in that business until he moved to Austin in 1988 when he was thirty and went into radio on Z102 as a part-time jock.
