As of 2010, the population of the town of Bamberg is 3,607. Established in Barnwell District (county) as Lowery, the town was granted a U.S. Post Office on August 14, 1850, and its first Postmaster was Mr. Howell Easterlin. On March 1, 1854, the Post Office Department officially changed the name to Bamberg.
