Jawor (German: Jauer) is a town in south-western Poland with 22,890 inhabitants (2019). It is situated in Lower Silesian Voivodeship (from 1975 to 1998 it was in the former Legnica Voivodeship ). It is the seat of Jawor County , and lies approximately 61 kilometres (38 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław .

Hirschberg was annexed with Lower Silesia by the Kingdom of Prussia during the Silesian Wars. The city was again partly destroyed, had to pay contributions and was seized several times. The detachment from Austria and the new border in the mountains to the south badly damaged the economy as the merchants lost a large part of their customers.

Nearby Polkowice Dolne is the site of a former State Agricultural Farm (PGR) and, since 1998, of a Volkswagen diesel engine plant, another major employer in the region. Designated as an urban-type settlement from 1945, Polkowice regained town status in 1967. In 1975–1998 it was in the former Legnica Voivodeship.
