Barbershop: The Next Cut is a 2016 American comedy film directed by Malcolm D. Lee. It is the fourth film in the Barbershop film series and stars an ensemble cast, including Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall and Anthony Anderson. Calvin, Eddie and the rest of the gang must work together to save their shop and their neighborhood from trigger-happy gang members that roam the streets.
Set nearly 15 years after the original film and 12 years after the second film, Calvin (Ice Cube) has merged the barbershop with the beauty salon next door into one business. New barbers include Jerrod (Lamorne Morris), Raja (Utkarsh Ambudkar), and Rashad (Common), who is now married to Terri (Eve). Rashad's son, Kenny is friends with Calvin's son, Jalen.
Minaj, whose film credits include Ice Age: Continental Drift and Barbershop: The Next Cut, will feature alongside returning voice actors Jason Sudeikis (Red), Josh Gad (Chuck The Yellow Bird of Speed), Bill Hader (King Mudbeard), Danny McBride (Bomb The Bird of Bomber) and Peter Dinklage (Mighty Eagle) and new additions Leslie Jones, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Lil Rel Howery, Dove Cameron, and Zach Woods. Details on her role are being kept under wraps.
Ice Cube, Cedric The Entertainer, Eve, Sean Patrick Thomas, Anthony Anderson, Troy Garity, Jazsmin Lewis are the only recurring cast members of the Barbershop series. Barbershop: The Next Cut goes to a more topical, emotional place than the previous entries without losing what made these movies work to begin with. The end result is an entertaining time at the movies and the best film in the series so far.
