Basová gitara (tiež basgitara alebo slangovo basa) je strunový nástroj, na ktorý sa hrá prstami alebo brnkadlom. Podľa spôsobu zosilňovania zvuku sa rozlišuje akustická a elektrická basová gitara. Basová gitara ma v mene gitara z toho dôvodu že konštrukčne vychádza z gitary.
Basová gitara (basgitara) – Delia sa taktiež na elektrické a akustické. Basgitara má štyri a viac strún naladených o oktávu nižšie ako na bežnej gitare s primárnym účelom rozširovať zvuk o hlboké tóny.
