Aug 6, 2021 · The original brand on Seven Men from Now is John Wayne’s Batjac Productions. The Duke had bought Burt Kennedy’s screenplay as a vehicle for himself but then moseyed off to star in John Ford’s epic The Searchers instead. That decision worked to the benefit of both movies.
In 1956 the production company became Batjac Productions, the banner under which Wayne would produce nearly 30 more films before his death. Batjac was a misspelling of Batak, a reference from a 1948 film Wayne made at Republic, Wake of the Red Witch, with his recurring leading lady Gail Russell.
