Benjamin Jacob " Ben " Grimm, also known as the Thing, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a founding member of the Fantastic Four. The Thing was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and he first appeared in The Fantastic Four #1 ( cover-dated Nov. 1961).

He also often assisted his teammate Johnny during the young man's solo adventures.
Most all super heroes on Earth see Ben Grimm as a staunch ally and strong partner, a status he values and never tries to exploit. The Thing’s grown closest to such luminaries as longtime Fantastic Four friend Spider-Man, the mutant Wolverine, patriot Captain America, and street-smart Luke Cage.
