Bernard Cornwell was born in London in 1944, as a child of war. His mother was a English citizen in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. His father was an airman for the Canadian airforce. But he was an “illegitimate” child and his parents put him up for adoption. Later Cornwell was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Wiggins of Thundersley, Essex.
