    • Tony Iommi. There could be no one else at number one. Tony Iommi created metal from the ground up, taking rock and blues as raw materials, drawing a songwriting logic and atmosphere from early horror cinema, and writing some of the best riffs – and, ergo, the best songs – in metal history.
