The Best of Spirit — originally released in 1973 and now expanded to sixteen tracks — features a superb distillation of the band’s first four albums. What it loses in some of the conceptual aspects of the group’s releases, it makes up for with perfect concision.
It's true that Spirit were a very album-oriented band, one that might best be experienced through albums rather than compilations. If a compilation's good enough for you, this is a good one to get.
