Stephen Hopkins was one of the most adventurous of the passengers aboard the Mayflower. He traveled with his second wife, Elizabeth (Fisher) Hopkins, and children Constanta, Giles and Damaris. Elizabeth was pregnant during the voyage and gave birth to a son Oceanus while at sea.

Bethia Hopkins. Bethia was the daughter of John & Jane Hopkins and a granddaughter of Samuel Hopkins, one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact and a member of Capt Miles Standish's military company in Feb of 1621. Bethia married (2) James Steele of Hartford.

Bethia Hopkins was not the daughter of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. There were two Bethia Hopkins in Hartford at about the same time. The older of the two was the one who married William Kelsey and settled in Hartford.
May 27, 2024 · The mistaken notion that William Kelsey's wife was a "Bethiah [?Hopkins]" can be traced to early reporting by a number of authors. In 1846, she was mis-identified by Hinman as "Bethia" the woman who married second to David Phillips.
