A founding member of the Bluegrass Cardinals and the Desert Rose Band, Bill also made his mark playing in the Laurel Canyon Ramblers and Country Gazette, and writing songs, including "The Girl at the Crossroads Bar". He won the Academy of Country Music's Bass Player of the Year Award for his work with Desert Rose.
