William Condon is an American director and screenwriter. Condon is known for writing and/or directing numerous successful and acclaimed films including Gods and Monsters, Chicago, Kinsey, Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. He has received two nominations for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay; Gods and Monsters and Chicago, winning for the former.

He wrote and directed the films Gods and Monsters (1998), Kinsey (2004), and Dreamgirls (2006), wrote the screenplay for Chicago (2002), and directed the final two installments of the Twilight series (2011, 2012), and the live-action adaptation of Disney 's Beauty and the Beast (2017).
Born in New York City, Condon attended DeWitt Clinton High School. After service in the United States Merchant Marine, Condon achieved moderate success as a Hollywood publicist, ad writer and Hollywood agent. Condon turned to writing in 1957.
