Billy the Kid (born Henry McCarty; September 17 or November 23, 1859 – July 14, 1881), also known by the pseudonym William H. Bonney, was an outlaw and gunfighter of the American Old West who killed eight men before he was shot and killed at the age of 21.
Billy the Kid was an outlaw whose legend has come to overshadow any personal or historical significance he may have had. It has not been satisfactorily documented when and where he was born, although it has been established that his actual name was Henry McCarty.
In 1955, a book titled “Alias Billy the Kid” was published about the life of Ollie (Brushy Bill) Roberts. It established his claim to being the notorious Billy the Kid. His claim was written so one and all could understand. Nothing was withheld or hidden.
