One of the most celebrated figures in American poetry, Robert Frost was the author of numerous poetry collections, including New Hampshire (Henry Holt and Company, 1923). Born in San Francisco in 1874, he lived and taught for many years in Massachusetts and Vermont.
Frost graduated from Lawrence High School, in 1892, as class poet (he also shared the honor of co-valedictorian with his wife-to-be Elinor White), and two years later, the New York Independent accepted his poem entitled “My Butterfly,” launching his status as a professional poet with a check for $15.00.
Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) was born in San Francisco to William Prescott Frost Jr. and Isabelle Moodie. His father, a hustling journalist, died in 1885, leaving his widow and two children with hardly enough money to make it back to Lawrence, Massachusetts.
