Males are black birds with dull brown heads. Adult males are shiny black, while first-year males are duller black. Females are much smaller and solid brown with a whitish throat and light streaking on their undersides. Juveniles look similar to females, but are more heavily streaked with lighter bellies and light edging on their wing feathers.

These birds have thick necks, long legs, short tails, and straight bills. When they’re flying, their wide, rounded wings can be seen.
Description. Brown-headed cowbird call. The brown-headed cowbird is typical for an icterid in general shape, but is distinguished by its finch -like head and beak and smaller size. The adult male is iridescent black in color with a brown head.
Short tail and stocky body. Males are glossy black with chocolate brown head. Females are gray-brown overall, without bold streaks, but slightly paler throat. Juveniles streaked brown. Found in open woods, farmland, and stockyards. Forages by walking on the ground. Often in flocks with other blackbirds in winter.
The Brown-headed Cowbird is found across North America in the summer, and remain all year in states along the east coast and Gulf coast. These omnivorous birds congregate in large, noisy groups outside of human dwellings.
