The late-Baroque brick building was devastated during World War II and used by the Germans as a military warehouse. Restoration began in 1970. In 1986 the restored building was turned over to the Museum of Leczynsko-Wlodawski Lake Region, and contains a permanent exhibit on Judaism.
The statue of one of the founders of the cathedral at Naumburg, a building of the eleventh century, mentioned above, wears leggings covered with mail, and the figures re-presented on coins of the reign of Henry the Lion, Duke of Brunswick, have the same kind of armour.

The building, which was completed between 1632 and 1638, is visited by three to four million tourists each year. The crowds and air pollution, however, have caused irreversible damage to the building's façade, prompting tourism officials to consider closing the historic site to the public.
