Her father, Bong Sang-Kyun (died 2017) was a graphic designer, professor of applied arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and her mother, Park So-young, was a homemaker. He is the youngest of the siblings (2 brothers and 2 sisters). His brother, Bong Joon-soo, is an English professor at Seoul National University.
