But one book is supremely important: the Book of Life. The Bible says that in God’s presence “books were opened.
A number of passages in the Bible refer to a book called “the book of life,” a figurative expression that originated from the ancient customs of (a) keeping various kinds of records like genealogical records (Neh. 7:5, 64; 12:22, 23) and of (b) registering citizens for numerous purposes (Jer. 22:30; Ezek. 13:9).
The phrase "book of life" is found only eight times, in eight verses, in the Bible. These occurrences are all found in the New Testament. Only one is written by the Apostle Paul (Philippians 4:3) while the remaining seven book references are recorded by John (Revelation 3:5, 8, 17:8, 20:12, 15, 21:27 and 22:19).

Not to be found in God’s book, or to be blotted out of it ( Exod 32:32 f.; Ps 69:28 ), or, not to be found in the book of life ( Rev 17:8; 20:15 ), means separation from God and perdition.
