Bowen Ranch provides the easiest access to Deep Creek, which are some of Southern California's favorite hot springs. The free route is 5 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail, so the shorter hiking option (2.6 miles from Bowen Ranch) is worth the entry fee. Use care and caution.
The deep creek hot springs are not located at 6100 Bowen ranch road. The springs themselves are down a steep canyon and you have to cross a deep cold creek that can be more like a river after a 2 mile hike that is not for novice hikers.

The Deep Creek Hot Springs are located in the Deep Creek drainage, outside the city of Apple Valley. The easiest access is through the Bowen Ranch Road, which accesses the site through private land (a fee is charged). The trail descends steeply for 2 1/2 miles to the springs.

Although close to Lake Arrowhead, this is a high-desert hike. It gets cold in the winter, hot in the summer (sometimes over 100F). Bring plenty of water (like 2-3L) and sunscreen. Wildlife
1. Deep Creek is the most biologically diverse drainage in all of San Bernardino National Forest. It's where the mountains meet the desert (and they meet Deep Creek), so there's lots of wildlife and vegetation. 2. Deep Creek is also designated as a Wild Trout Stream, and you can usually see them swimming around in the water. 3. Another resident of the area is the endangered Southwestern Arroyo Toad, which burrows in the sand during the day and comes out at night.
The Scene
1. The hot springs are clothing optional. If you're not comfortable around naked people, don't go. 2. Camping
1. You're not allowed to camp within 1 mile of Deep Creek Hot Springs, although people do. No open fires or stoves allowed. No glass containers within a mile. 2. People break these rules all the time. If you choose to break the rules, know that if a ranger finds you, you'll get a fine and have to hike out (possibly at night). 3. If you break the rules, pack your crap out, be respectful, and don't start a forest fire. Don't ruin this beautiful place please.
That's it, you're at the hot springs. From here you just head back the way you came. You'll have to climb that steep hill, but once you clear that, it's pretty easy going back to the trailhead.
Sep 4, 2020 · Deep Creek Hot Springs is nestled along the Mojave River at an elevation of 3,000 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains. This year-round mineral water retreat consists of three pools the size of large hot tubs, that range in temperature from around 96 degrees in the first pool to 102 in the third.
This is a short hike to natural hot springs within the San Bernardino National Forest of Southern California. This is a day-use area only and no overnight camping is permitted. At the springs, clothing is optional, so if nudity offends you you may want to choose another hike.
