Jan 17, 2024 · Firstly, the name Sea to Sky Highway is much more exciting than the official boring-sounding British Columbia Highway 99, right? It's quite interesting to learn that the name Highway 99 was originally derived from the U.S Route 99 that ends at the U.S. - Canada border (which was turned into 2223 kilometers long Interstate 5 later on).
This is the major east–west route in the province. The Crowsnest Highway (Highway 3) runs from Hope, then through Osoyoos, Castlegar, Cranbrook, right to Crowsnest Pass on the BC/Alberta border. 97 helpful votes. 3. Re: Challenging roads with RV. 11 years ago. Save. Coquihalla Summit is 1244 metres. As V67 mentions it's one long haul up and one long slope down. The trouble is, BC is made of 5 north-south mountain ranges. Hwy 3 is a scenic drive, but one pass, Allison Pass, is 1342 metres.
