May 10, 1999 · Johns’s Flag is a perceptual game, a two-step between reality and illusion that extends to the meaning of the work. Johns’s take on the flag, which began in 1954 near the start of the Cold War, is analytic, cool, and unsentimental. This version from 1967 was made during the height of the Vietnam War.

Tickets are $25 for adults, free for children 17 and under, and will include same-day general admission for The Broad’s third floor galleries. Tickets can be booked in advance on The Broad’s website.
