Brown’s Island is one of the most popular public park spaces in the city of Richmond. Located on the Richmond riverfront along the James River, the island features access to the Canal Walk, Manchester and more.
With the James River running through downtown Richmond, Virginia, this island serves as a wonderful spot to observe a stretch of urban waterway. The park, a stone’s throw from downtown, is connected to the popular Canal Walk. Festivals, concerts and art displays are common attractions.
Brown’s Island is an amazing, six-acre riverfront park. Brown’s Island is located south of Tredegar Street between 5th Street and 12th Street on the James River. It was formed by the Haxell Canal and is part of the 1.25-mile Riverfront Canal Walk.

Brown's Island is an artificial island on the James River in Richmond, Virginia, formed by the Haxall Canal. Part of the city's James River Park, it is the popular venue of a large number of outdoor concerts and festivals in the spring and summer, such as the weekly Friday Cheers concert series or Dominion Riverrock.

Brown’s Island is one of the most heavily visited public park spaces in the city of Richmond. Located on downtown’s riverfront along the James River, just south of Tredegar Street between 5th and 12th Streets, the island was formed by the Haxall Canal and is part of the 1.25-mile Canal Walk.
Directions. Location: Bottom of 12th Street (on the James River) map it. Brown’s Island is surrounded by the James River on the South and the Haxall Canal on the North. The main public entrance is located at the corner of 7th and Tredegar streets.
