Bryan Adams was nine years old in the summer of ’69. He didn’t join his first band (Shock) until ’76. Which doesn’t quite fit the song’s lyrical content, which appears to rue the break-up of a teenage band (‘Jimmy quit and Jody got married’) and the collapse of a love affair (‘I think about you, wonder what went wrong’).

In 1969 Bryan lives in Texas & nowhere nears a drive-in & it is not until 1970 that Bryan moves to the never mentioned, isolated suburb Beacon Hill in between the Ottawa River, the Queensway & the edge of the city This is where Bryan's first real six string & the drive-in theater come into the picture.

Bryan Adams wrote the song alongside his long-term collaborator, Jim Vallance. The two of them composed the track, which was actually completed in January of 1984, in Jim Vallance’s basement studio.
