Feb 26, 2024 · Burke County is North Carolina‘s largest mountain county and full of so much natural beauty, awesome hikes inside state parks and the Linville Gorge, and more ways to enjoy the outdoors. We first came here to explore the Gorge, but over time, we have been introduced to many things to do in Morganton, the county seat, and its surroundings.
Burke County is located in west central North Carolina, in the state's Mountain region. It was formed in 1777 and named for Thomas Burke , delegate to the Continental Congress and governor of the state (1781-82).
