Burton Stephen Lancaster was born on November 3, 1913, in East Harlem, NY. His parents were Elizabeth (Roberts) and James Lancaster. All his grandparents were immigrants from Ireland. When he was 9 years old, he met Nick Cravat, and the two became lifelong friends.
