Cable Factory. Kaapeliaukio 3, 00180 Helsinki. Cable Factory (Kaapelitehdas), situated in Ruoholahti district, is one of the largest cultural centres in Finland. Once an industrial complex producing marine cables, the centre now offers lots to do, see and experience for everybody interested in culture.
1939–1943. Verner Weckman, one of the company’s directors and twice Olympic wrestling champion, begins construction of a new factory building in Salmisaari, Helsinki. The new cable factory is designed by the architect Wäinö G. Palmqvist. The first U-shaped part is built.

Kaapelitehdas (Finnish for "the Cable Factory", also called simply Kaapeli, Swedish: Kabelfabriken) is a famous building in Salmisaari, Helsinki, near the Lauttasaari bridge. It was redeveloped from its industrial use into a cultural centre which hosts artists studios, three museums, activities and events.

Cable Factory has thousands of stories. Situated in Helsinki’s Ruoholahti district, Cable Factory was the biggest building in Finland when it was completed in 1954. Initially it was a production site for marine cables. Later on, Finland’s first supercomputer was located here.
Apr 12, 2022 · In 1991, the City of Helsinki founded KAAPELI, a limited real-estate company, to convert the Cable Factory into a cultural centre. Today, the centre consists of 63,000 m2 of space, used by 130 ateliers, two bars, 12 galleries, three museums, two restaurants, multiple event venues and a brand new dance house with two halls.
