The Mythical 210-Minute Version. Caligula received its world première at private screenings in Cannes at the same time as the 10–24 May 1979 film festival. This has caused some confusion, especially courtesy of Variety ’s sloppy shorthand habit of lumping these private screenings together with the festival proper.
Caligula, Caesonia, Julia, and the giant's death scenes are all trimmed to remove more graphic moments (i.e. Julia's head against the stone, closeups of Caligula being stabbed by the guards, etc). There is much incorrect and misleading information concerning the various versions of this film.
