  6. The Cape of Good Hope is a promontory on the southwestern tip of Africa. It is the point where ships from Europe stopped sailing south and started heading eastwards. Cape Point is less than three kilometres away and is the actual tip of the peninsula. Note that it isn’t the southernmost point in Africa, which is actually Cape Agulhas.
