Cape Town City Hall is a large Edwardian building in Cape Town city centre which was built in 1905. It is located on the Grand Parade to the west of the Castle and is built from honey-coloured oolitic limestone imported from Bath in England.

The clock’s faces were modelled from iron filled with opal, most likely mined in Australia. For nearly 70 Years, City Hall served a dual purpose. In its administrative wing, it served as the headquarters of the administration of Cape Town and the seat of its mayoralty.
Starting from 2017 to 2021, major restoration project works to both the exterior and interior of the City Hall have taken place. This included processes of restoration, upgrading, renovation, redesign, refurbishment, maintenance and repurposing of the building.
The hall was built in 1905 in the old-Italian Renaissance style and is the last of its kind in the city. Imposing and incredibly impressive mosaic floors, marble stairs and an organ with 3 165 pipes decorate the interior of the City Hall.
There is also an exhibition inside City Hall dedicated to this icon. City hall was originally built to house the City of Cape Town’s offices but the city’s administration duties were moved to the Civic Centre.
