National average salary: $16.13 per hour Primary duties: Fashion designers illustrate new styles for their target customers by hand-drawing or using a CAD program. A high-end fashion designer usually draws elaborate, innovative designs by hand. Most fashion designers work for apparel companies that mass-produce clothing by gathering inspiration from runway shows, high-end brands and seasonal trends. They may start sketching a new season’s collection by hand, but often have to finalize their design in a CAD program to show to buyers and the apparel product development team. Fashion designers also choose the colors and fabrics used in their designs.

    2. Animator

National average salary: $17.20 per hour Primary duties: Animators create the moving images for cartoons, video games and animated films. The animator is responsible for drawing every aspect of the animation including the character, foreground, background and any other moving objects. The artist starts by developing the design concept, creating a storyboard and presenting the idea to the creative or production teams. The creative team then develops the individual images into a moving image and visual effect.

They must develop a strong knowledge of the brand they are designing for and ensure the graphic is cohesive and visually pleasing. The graphic designer primarily works in CAD programs so the graphic can be easily applied to the required print medium, but they can begin by hand drawing if preferred.
