That information might be lost to history, but we know from the printing on the card that the image was shot at Carl Thiel’s Art Gallery in Duluth. Handwritten on the back of the card is the date: “Jan. 1896.”.

Aug 4, 2016 · Internets: The photographer of the second and third images is Carl Thiel of Duluth. He was located on Ingalls Block between 1887 and 1891. His studio moved to 105 W. Superior St. between 1891 and 1901.
He initially worked for North Hibbing photographer Carl Thiel before buying the latter’s business outright in 1907. As Aubin’s business grew, so did his studios, with a second in Hibbing and others in Buhl, Chisholm, and Nashwauk.
