The Cascade–Siskiyou National Monument is a United States national monument that protects 114,000 acres (46,134 ha) [1] of forest and grasslands at the junction of the Cascade Range and the Siskiyou Mountains in Southwestern Oregon and Northwestern California, United States.
Mount Shasta (/ ˈ ʃ æ s t ə / SHASS-tə; Shasta: Waka-nunee-Tuki-wuki; [5] Karuk: Úytaahkoo) [6] is a potentially active [7] volcano at the southern end of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County, California. At an elevation of 14,179 ft (4,322 m), it is the second-highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth-highest in the state.
Located at the edge of the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountains near the Oregon-California state line, it is “an area of unique geology, biology, climate, and topography” and one of the few National Monuments established primarily to preserve biodiversity.
