Also, he spend some time at the court of King Władysław II Jagiełło of Poland. After 1420 Siemowit IV, due to his progressive blindness, gradually gave participation in the government to his adult sons.

A member of the Piast dynasty, he drove his brother Mieszko III from the throne and spent much of his reign fighting him. Mieszko actually regained power briefly in 1190–91, retaking Kraków.

The War for Brest was Prince Casimir II the Just 's military campaign against Kievan Rus following the fall of Brest. Casimir quickly captured the city and made efforts to restore Prince Mstislav to the throne of Halych. Despite initial reluctance from some Polish lords, Casimir led his forces into battle against opposing Rus princes.
