In 1950 Lee married Catherine Francesca Polge, whose father was Provençal and whose mother was another of the Garman sisters, Helen; they had one daughter, Jessie. From 1950 to 1951 he was caption-writer-in-chief for the Festival of Britain , for which service he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1952.

She is the daughter of the Cider With Rosie author Laurie Lee, who died 18 years ago aged 82, and his wife, Katherine Polge, who was one of the Bloomsbury set. Jessy has had a well-documented...
During World War II he worked for the Ministry of Information making documentary films and also did freelance work as a journalist and script writer. In 1950 he married Catherine Francesca Polge and they had a daughter Jessie, who still lives at the house he bought in the 1960’s in Slad.
