The American Revolution was a rebellion and political revolution in the Thirteen Colonies, which culminated in colonists initiating an ultimately successful war for independence against the Kingdom of Great Britain.
Once independence was declared, the U.S. provided support to the rebels through the Continental Army, led by George Washington. The government also sought foreign aid, particularly from France, which provided troops, funds, and military equipment to aid the American cause.
