   How does the CBOE calculate the Vix?

   • The CBOE computes the VIX using primarily the put and call options in the two nearest-term expiration months so as to bracket a 30-day calendar period. At eight days to expiration, the VIX rolls to the second and third contract months to alleviate any sort of pricing anomaly that may occur due to the expiration proximity.
