Mac DeMarco recorded this track in a now-demolished warehouse in New York he was living in at the time called the "Meat Wall." The room in which the song was recorded was a windowless, "weird little cell," which reminded DeMarco of the Masonic Chamber of Reflection, a small sealed room in which Masonry initiates would enter, reflect upon their life up to that point, and emerge as a clean slate.
Grants are provided for the commissioning and performance of new works by American composers. The program supports works scored for 2–10 musicians performing one per part, composed in any of the musical styles associated with contemporary classical music. Chamber Music America encourages commissions by emerging and mid-career composers.
