Apr 21, 2022 · WASHINGTON (AP) — Charles Evans will retire early next year after 15 years as president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, a tenure that made him the longest-serving current regional Fed president, the bank announced Thursday. Among Fed officials, Evans has been a vocal supporter of lower interest rates.
Charles L. Evans took office as president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in September 2007, on the eve of the Great Financial Crisis. He leaves, reaching the office’s mandatory retirement age of 65, amid the still-glowing embers of a worldwide pandemic.
