     There is no clear information on whether this problem is with iOS or Mac.

     Mauricio has explained how to solve this problem on Mac.

     Let me take the liberty of how to fix this problem in iOS.

     So basically there is a SSL trust issue that's happening on device that's why the request is not succeeding and you are getting the network connection failure

     If you load the site on non-safari browsers such as Chrome you'll have a option to add an SSL exception for this particular site and proceed.

     To fix the problem for once and all follow the below steps

     Starting from iOS 10.3 SSL trust for the certificate has to be turned on manually for the manually installed certificate profiles in iOS so go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings. Under Enable full trust for root certificates turn on trust for the certificate

     Charles will (thankfully) not automatically perform man in the middle attacks on all your SSL connections.

     You need to enable SSL proxying on a per domain basis. Either by context clicking the connection and choosing Enable SSL Proxying from the menu or in the SSL Proxying Settings window in the Tools menubar.

     I was getting the same error. It's not related to your CA cert, it's a different thing, related to your client certs.

     In charles, go to the Proxy menu and choose "Client SSL Certificates"

     For some reason I had a mapping from . to blank/nothing. Maybe you do too. If so, remove all your mappings here and it will probably fix it.

     After a bit more exploring found answer to the question

     "I would like to see all the calls (specifically API calls) being made by the application I am browsing and that is to any levels."

     This is possible through Charles Proxy but we need to have the application running in local. This is obvious server to server API calls will not be exposed so as a developer if he/she wants to get the any-level API calls being made by the application that he/she is trying to explore, the solution will be to setup the application locally and configure Charles Proxy.

     Please share if anyone wants to share any other thought.

     You should make sites whitelisted. For this open menu:

     1) Proxy->SSL Proxy Settings...

     2) On SSL Proxy press "Add" button

     3) In Host add *

     Done. This will allow any connections to any hosts.
