Getting John Forsythe to reprise his television role as Charlie’s voice was a stroke of brilliance. And I like these three angels better than the three originals. Part of that is a result of the modern writing and shooting, which makes the movie a lot faster paced than the TV show.

April 03, 2010. John Forsythe, the handsome, smooth-voiced actor who made his fortune as the scheming oil tycoon in TV’s “Dynasty” and the voice of the leader of “Charlie’s Angels,” has died after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 92. Forsythe died late Thursday at his home in Santa Ynez from complications of pneumonia, publicist Harlan Boll said Friday.
The legendary actor John Forsythe was the voice of Charlie since the very beginning but his casting in the voice role was actually a last-minute decision. Initially, the creators of the 1976 'Charlie's Angels' TV series wanted Academy Award-winner Gig Young for the role of Charlie Townsend. However, producer Aaron Spelling was forced to look for other available options after Young showed up at the studio too drunk to read his lines.
He has had the most success on television, with healthy runs on Bachelor Father (1957), Dynasty (1981) and as the unseen voice of Charlie Townsend on Charlie's Angels (1976). John Forsythe died at age 92 of complications from pneumonia on April 1, 2010 in Santa Ynez, California.
