I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato is the very first episode of Charlie and Lola.
Charlie has to make dinner for Lola, but she's a very picky eater and refuses to eat carrots, peas, mashed potatoes, fish sticks and her least favourite food, tomatoes (although she has never tried these foods before). The episode begins with Charlie Sonner telling us that his sister, Lola Sonner, is a fussy eater, and she won't even eat tomatoes, even though she's never tried one before. Charlie gives her a bag of carrots, but she says that carrots are for rabbits and "she doesn't ever eat carrots." So Charlie plays a trick on Lola. He tells Lola that the carrots are Orange Twiglets from Jupiter. Lola takes a bite out of a carrot and says "Not bad."
The camera cuts to a plate of peas. One of the peas has Lola's face on it and says, "Don't even think about giving me a pea." Lola doesn't want any peas because they're "too small and too green". Once again, Charlie tricks Lola and tells her that the peas are Green Drops from Green Land. So, Lola decides to have one pea and finds out it's tasty.
Soon after, Lola spies a potato and warns us, "I will not eat potato, so don't even try." She doesn't even want to eat mash. Charlie tells her it's Cloud Fluff from the Pointiest Peak of Mount Fuji. Again, Lola likes it.
After that, Lola notices fish fingers and tells Charlie that "they look like fish fingers to (her) and (she) would never eat a fish finger. Again, Charlie says fish fingers are Ocean Nibbles from Under the Sea which mermaids eat. Lola says she always eats what mermaids eat.
•Moral: It's good to try new foods.
•Running Gag: After Lola tries a new food each, she notices a tomato on the table and gets rid of it.
•This episode was adapted from Lauren Child's first Charlie and Lola book.
•When Charlie and Lola sang out "Yum-a-lay-hee-hoo" after trying the clouds (mash because Charlie wanted Lola to eat it), it was a pun on the most common yodelling sound "Yo-da-lay-hee-hoo" because they pretended (or supposedly "imagined") they were on top of Mount Fuji. This is a reference to what yodelling originally was meant to be a form of singing used for communication on the top of the mountain although because it was very song-like, it was used in songs created in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland of course, where it remains the most common folk-singing in those three European countries.
•Charlie and Lola often use their tablecloth as an imaginary ocean, since it has blue lines that look like waves.
•On BBC iPlayer, this episode is seen as the 6th episode of Season 1, despite being the 1st episode of Season 1 overall.

Charlie has a clever idea, and decides to trick Lola into eating the foods she refuses to ever eat. When Lola sees some peas, she reminds Charlie that she doesn’t eat peas because they are green. Charlie tells Lola that he wouldn’t give her peas to eat, they are not peas but ‘green drops from Greenland.

Lola will not eat peas. In fact, she won't eat carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, eggs, sausages, cauliflower, cabbage or baked beans. And she absolutely will not EVER eat a tomato. But then Charlie explains to Lola that these are not peas - these are green drops from Greenland.
