The Soviets withdrew in 1989, the Berlin Wall fell, the Cold War was over, and Ronald Reagan got all the credit.
In the early 1980s, US Congressman Charlie Wilson (Hanks), Texas socialite Joanne Herring (Roberts) and CIA agent Gust Avrakotos (Hoffman) form an unlikely alliance to boost funding for Afghan freedom fighters in their war against invading Soviets.
